1 June 2018

WHEN most people buy cars, they tend to focus on how it looks and what features or gadgets it has. While these things are important, it is also equally vital to consider its comfort.

For many people, their car is their means of transportation to and from work. That means, they spend quite a bit of time every day sitting in the driver’s seat, stuck in traffic at times.

It is time to think of your car as a means of getting from one point to another. It is just as essential as your living and working space because you do spend some time there as well. If you take the effort to make those places comfortable for you, then you should pay the same amount of attention to making your car just as cozy.

Discomfort can also get in the way of driving safely. For example, if your seat is too big or far away for you, you would need to extend forward just to reach the brake pedal. So when you are choosing a car to buy, actually sitting inside and taking it for a test drive will let you check if you are comfortable driving it.

Here are some ways you can actually make your car more cozy and relaxing when you are in the driver’s seat:

  1. Improve the seats

Seating is one of the most important and easiest ways to improve your driving experience. If you normally have to be in the car for longer periods, for example, you will know that your back and hips would start to hurt if not supported properly. In such cases, it makes sense to get contoured backrests that provide the right support during the entire drive. Another way to improve the comfort of your seats is to get a seat cover that has a softer fabric.

Beyond that, making sure your seat is ergonomic to allow for comfortable driving is a must. You need to adjust it so that your legs are not too stretched to reach the pedals, nor should the front of the seat hit the back of your knees because circulation to your legs can become restricted.

The last factor you need to consider is the climate. Extreme heat or cold can make sitting in the driver’s seat very uncomfortable. Some newer cars have heated seats, but if you have an older model, you can opt for some heated car seat covers instead. You can also go for a heated steering wheel for those exceptionally chilly days. There are also similar products that work during summer so that your hands do not get burned while driving or even just sitting on the driver’s seat.

  1. Opt for sun protection

Summers are becoming uncharacteristically warmer everywhere in the world, and it can make driving very uncomfortable especially when traffic is bad. While almost all cars are now equipped with air conditioning systems, there is an easier and more cost-effective way of keeping you and the inside of the car cool.

The secret is to get tinted windows, as they keep you safe from the sun’s glare and keep you cool at all times. You can also invest in a reflective sunshade so that the interior of the car does not get too hot like the inside of an oven when parked outdoors. Beyond promoting your comfort, they also protect your car from damage by the sun and the extreme heat.

  1. Keep your car clean

When you are driving, it is not always possible to put things away tidily where they belong but if you do not pick up afterwards, you will soon find your car full of mess. Crumbs on the seats will bring discomfort when they harden, and trash on the floor can actually get in the way of you driving safely.

Vacuuming your seats and opting for an air cleaning system will also rid your car interior of allergens like dust and pet hair. Sneezing while driving is potentially dangerous.

  1. Maintain your car

Taking your car to the garage regularly will keep you safe and will also add to your comfort. Not knowing what those sounds are and experiencing a bumpy ride will just distract you and worry you. You do not want to feel unsafe every time you drive.

  1. Upgrade the entertainment system

If you spend more than the usual amount of time in your car daily, then you would want to keep yourself entertained during the ride. Upgrading your in-car entertainment system is one of the easiest ways to make your travel comfortable and enjoyable.

These simple steps can easily improve your driving experience, and you would find yourself looking forward every day to getting on that driver’s seat. This time you spend getting to and from work should never be stressful or uncomfortable, and your seat in the car should make you feel relaxed.

If you frequently use a laptop right in your car, you should use the best car laptop mount for maximum convenience.
