The Range Rover Sport SVR boasts 550PS and a massive 680Nm of torque

LAND ROVER has been showing off its fastest and most powerful car ever, the Range Rover Sport SVR, at Pebble Beach in California.

Among the Range Rover Sport SVR highlights are a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine churning out 550PS and 680Nm paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive.

The Range Rover Sport SVR is fitted with a new two-stage active exhaust. It features electronically controlled valves, which add to the driving experience by providing what is described as a “racecar-inspired soundtrack” at higher revs without, it is claimed, adversely affecting refinement during gentler driving.

Land Rover says all that power is good enough to get the Range Rover Sport SVR around the Nürburgring in just 8 minutes and 14 seconds.

The Range Rover Sport SVR was developed by Jaguar Land Rover’s new Special Vehicle Operations team and but will be built alongside mainstream models at JLR’s existing production facilities

Order books open in October 2014 at an on-the-road price of £93,450 and first deliveries of the Range Rover Sport SVR are expected early next year.
