THE BVRLA has appointed a new chief executive.

Gerry Keaney, a former boss of Volvo Cars in the UK, takes up the position as the new BVRLA chief executive from May 01.

Gerry replaces John Lewis who is stepping down from the post after 13 years at the helm.

However, John will still be around the corridors of the BVRLA (British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association), as he will be taking on a new part-time role as the BVRLA’s Director of External Affairs.

John’s replacement – Gerry Keaney – certainly knows how the automotive industry works, though.

Gerry was MD of Volvo Cars between 1996 and 2002, part of a 21 year spell at the car maker, which also included senior international roles at the parent company, concluding with nine years as senior vice president of marketing, sales and customer service, having started his automotive career with British Leyland.

“We are delighted to welcome Gerry to the UK’s most progressive automotive trade association,” commented BVRLA chairman, Neil Cunningham, on Gerry’s appointment.

“The vehicle rental and leasing industry continues to lead the way in promoting safe, sustainable and affordable road transport and we are proud to have attracted a senior executive with such a wealth of experience.”

The BVRLA is the national trade body representing those companies engaged in business car leasing and the rental of cars and vans.  In total, the BVRLA’s members operate a fleet of 2.75 million cars, vans, and trucks.
