THE great thing about taking a European road trip is that once you get in your car outside your house, the only time you need to get out again is when you get to your destination.

The Lakes, Italy
The Italian lakes are a great location if you are considering a road trip to Europe. The region is situated in the north of the country and is only a day’s drive from Calais. You can visit Lake Como and explore the lake, surrounding villas or take a trip up the mountain on the tram, or Lake Maggiore, which is located next to the Alps. These scenic spots are great for camping and boast beautiful mountain vistas.
Bruges, Belgium
Bruges is a fantastic picturesque destination. It is only an hour’s drive away from Calais, making it a convenient spot to get to. Bruges is a scenic medieval town filled with sights to see and things to do, including the Grote Markt and Belfry Climb, boat tours, or take a time out from travelling by car and have a ride in a horse drawn cart.
Great St. Bernard Pass
St. Bernard’s Pass is one of the oldest and most famous passes in the world. It’s a picturesque route that runs through the Alps between Italy and Switzerland. The summit has amazing views and several landmarks including a lake and the hospice that has been used by travellers for centuries. Depending on which way you come in, you can also make a stop at Mt Blanc. Plan your journey in advance as the pass is closed between June and October.
The Black Forest, Germany
The Black Forest is a mountain range that is covered with fir trees. This destination provides expansive and impressive views. There are plenty of places to stop to admire the scenery, and lots of activities including Snowboarding, lake diving and paragliding to keep you busy. There are also historic towns, wineries and villages that you can drive to.
Provence, France
Driving is the ideal way to explore Provence. The temperature is pleasant even in winter, making it ideal for exploring the various castles and historic towns you will pass on your way. There are a variety of wineries and vineyards across Provence where you can stop and try the wines the region has to offer. There are also a multitude of outdoor markets where you can buy fresh food.
A road trip is the best way to see Europe. You can travel at your own pace, stop to take in the sights, and know you have the freedom to go wherever you want to.
