Despite the huge push to promote the use of electric vehicles, they are not as environmentally or wallet friendly as you have been led to believe.
When it comes to being ‘green’ hundreds, maybe even thousands, of people and businesses are being fooled into thinking that electric is the way forward. In reality this couldn’t be further from the truth. So where has all the hype come from? Are electric car advertisements doing a wonderful job of shaping public perception or are we simply ignorant to the bigger picture? Here’s the evidence to support the use of diesel over electric:
Science Speaks for Itself
In 2012, a Norwegian University of Science and Technology study found that greenhouse gas emissions will rise dramatically if all cars were fuelled by coal generated electricity. While the cars themselves, being battery powered, will not produce emissions like petrol and diesel engines they are not completely emission free. If they are being charged via a standard coal-fuelled electricity plant then it will be there that the carbon footprint is being generated on a massive scale.
As electric cars progress they will exhibit larger, more-powerful batteries which will require a lot more electricity to charge – therefore increasing the amount of coal being burned in the electricity plants and increasing the true carbon footprint. The Norwegian study also found that electric car factories also emitted more toxic waste than conventional car factories.
