Business drivers planning to drive abroad for a skiing break must comply with European law.
This means they must carry the vehicle’s registration document (the V5) with them at all times.
Leased or rented cars belong to the leasing or rental company: they retain ownership of the registration document.
In which case there is only one substitute: it’s called a VE 103.
A VE 103 is also known as a Vehicle on Hire certificate.
It must be carried in the vehicle. Photocopies are not acceptable.
Your car could be impounded if you do not carry your VE 103 or registration document.
“Small businesses should make sure they are prepared, particularly at this busy time of year,” commented Sally Livingstone, UK key account manager, Audi. “Obtaining a VE 103 from your lease company is simple. But you need to allow them a few days to process the form, as demand is likely to be high at the moment.”
The VE 103: key points
- Required for all rented or leased vehicles
- Required whether on business or holiday
- Ask your leasing or rental company for the VE 103 in advance
- If the car is owned by your own company, you’ll need the registration document
