THE Westfield shopping centre at Stratford, overlooking the Olympic Park: not the obvious place to find a shop selling cars, but that’s exactly what Vauxhall is doing with its new Adam supermini.
Yes, a shop. Not very business like? Well, no.
But it’s part of Vauxhall’s high-profile campaign to bring the Adam to consumers as the company launches its supermini rival to the MINI, Fiat 500 and Citroen DS3.

However, business car managers won’t have to send their company car drivers off to city shopping centres to experience the car.
Like all Vauxhall models, the new Adam is available on the company’s three-day test drive programme.
“We realise that the Adam is more a retail car than a fleet or business car,” Paul Adler, Vauxhall’s fleet marketing manager explained to me in the Adam pop-up shop, saying that fleet or business sales will only account for 15% of the Adam’s sales.
“But that’s not to preclude company car drivers from the Adam. Our research has shown that company car drivers value a meaningful test drive over three days,” Paul continues.
“Comparing 2011 to 2012 we grew the volume of our three day test drives by 35% and we plan to grow them again by 25% in 2013. So we have to make the cars available, including the new Adam as well as the recently added Ampera.”
To book a Vauxhall three day test drive is really simple.
You go to the Vauxhall website, find the fleet menu, then the company car drivers menu, and then select the three day test drive – to save you the bother, here’s the link: Vauxhall three day test drive.
Having filled in a few details – name, phone number, email address – Vauxhall will buzz you back within the hour and arrange the three-day test drive.
The simplicity of the system was one of the reasons our judges in the SME Company Car of the Year Awards decided Vauxhall should win the Best SME Company Car Programme.
“We’ve spent a lot of time getting the web journey correct on our website, so that company car drivers can get all the relevant data in the right place.”
Paul says the first Vauxhall Adam demonstration cars will be available in March. They are certainly worth evaluating.
