City Car Club: providing car sharing for Greenwich

CAR sharing in London’s Royal Borough of Greenwich in London is changing.

City Car Club has been appointed as the  car sharing partner to improve local people’s access to sustainable transport.

City Car Club, owned by Enterprise Rent-A-Car, will be the sole supplier now, meaning Zipcar loses out.

Car sharing is a useful way to access vehicles when you need them, without having to pay for the standing costs. It is being promoted as a cost-effective alternative to car ownership, and an environmentally-friendly and hassle-free supplement to public transport.

Small businesses can benefit with easy access to cars when they need them, without requiring to fund company cars for staff – or pay staff to use their private car on company business.

Members of the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s previous car sharing provider are promised free membership to City Car Club  for three years following the appointment.

Councillor Danny Thorpe, Royal Borough of Greenwich cabinet member for regeneration and transport, said: “We were one of the first boroughs to offer a car sharing service and we want to continue to encourage as much uptake as possible. Joining a car club is a great way of saving on the costs of car ownership and is more environmentally friendly.
