More businesses want to run a greener fleet.

That’s the conclusion from the latest ‘Key Fleet Considerations’ survey.

The report has been compiled by Lex, the UK’s largest leasing company.

The ‘going green’ issue has risen from eighth place in 2005 to sixth (2006) and now to third in 2007.

“Bearing in mind the exposure the issue has had over the past 12 months, we were surprised that going green didn’t come top of the survey,” said Jon Walden, managing director, Lex.

With the Road Safety Bill due to become law in late February – which includes tougher fines and a three point endorsement for drivers who use hand-held mobiles – duty of care tops the list.

In second was vehicle running costs.

In order, the key fleet considerations were:

  • Health and safety / duty of care
  • Vehicle running costs
  • Running a greener car fleet
  • Fuel prices
  • Legislation
  • Reducing the administration of the business car fleet
  • Speeding / speed cameras
  • Residual values
  • Congestion charging and road tolls
  • Putting cash drivers back into company cars
