THE economy is looking up, house prices are on the rise – and car sales maintain their upward trajectory.
And how!
This was the second largest March month for new car registrations since the 1999 move to twice yearly registrations.
In total there were 464,824 new cars registered with a 14 plate, with Ford leading the way with the Fiesta first, followed by the Focus with Vauxhall in third with the Corsa.
“Given the past six years of subdued economic performance across the UK, there is still a substantial margin of pent-up demand that is contributing to a strong new and used car market,” said Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive.
Compared to March 2013, sales to fleet buyers were 13.5% up; and business buyers were 23.4% up.
There was also a massive increase in alternative fuel cars – such as hybrids – recording a year on year increase of 63.8%.
