A REPORT in Reuters says that BMW and Daimler are preparing the way to merge their respective car sharing services.

BMW’s DriveNow and Daimler’s car2go would retain their brand names but centralise resources, it is believed.

DriveNow is a joint venture between BMW and Sixt car rental firm. It was launched in May 2011 and came to London in December 2014. DriveNow says it has more than 1m customers in 13 European cities.

Car2Go was founded in 2008 and has 30 locations worldwide. There are 793,000 members in Europe and 1.3m worldwide.

It’s suggested that the reason for the tie-up is to provide a stronger response to the ride hailing app Uber.
