BMW has a reputation from producing brilliant advertisements on the first of April – one of my favourites was from years back, the convertible you could drive in the rain with the roof down thanks to a special overhead air stream protector.
But today’s is exceptional.
We wanted to develop something that could genuinely improve performance and help the face of rugby
And not just because it features England captain Chris Robshaw who just also happens to be a star of my own team, Harlequins. Well, OK, that helps…
But the ad, called ‘Motor. Mouth’, appearing in newspapers today is clever, amusing, and has a great image to go with it.
Robshaw and BMW’s head of product fabrication Dr Uwe Gotobekidin, have, goes the story, developed a brand new RU Series which brings BMW’s car safety technology to the rugby field. And all developed from BMW door seals…
Robshaw, commented: “When BMW asked if they could help improve our performance by developing a new mouthguard, we bit their hand off at the opportunity.
“It’s been great to be part of the process to develop something that will contribute to the success of players across the country. Not only will it give us added protection during a match, it will also help protect our smiles for the post-match press conference photos.”
Quite.
They’re no fools Robshaw and BMW.
