The cabin has room for 4 adults – snug, but plenty of space for feel good factor with that roof down

What’s hot?

  • Handsome styling, good-to-drive, practical coupe cabriolet all-weather convenience.

We drove the base level SE but even so the kit includes heated seats, cruise and climate control, and a serious multimedia system
  • Strong performance from the 420d’s two-litre diesel engine, with 280 lb ft of torque.
  • Good economy with a 55.4mpg combined figure.
  • CO2 at 133g/km means 22% company car tax.
  • Nearly 700 miles potential range from the 57 litres fuel tank.
  • Full four-seater, not a 2+2.
  • Top motors down or up in just 20 seconds either way.
  • Lots of safety kit, well equipped for occupant protection.

Up or down takes around 20 seconds
  • Pleasingly un-breezy in the cabin with the roof down when you use the optional wind deflector.
  • Good size boot at 370 litres when the roof is on.
  • Clever device to lift the roof mechanism out of the way for quick boot loading when the top is down.
  • Business trip to Germany? This car can do over 140mph on a de-restricted autobahn.
  • Can tow 745kg, if you really want to with a car this smart.
  • Available with SE, Sport, Modern, Luxury or M Sport trim levels.
  • Even the base level SE spec includes standard dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, cruise control, parking sensors, multimedia system with touch screen, rotary iDrive controller, Bluetooth for pairing your mobile to the car.
  • Options include adaptive headlights (£360), interior comfort pack with steering wheel heating, ‘air collar’ neck level warmth and a wind deflector (£355).

What’s not?

  • Priced at around £5000 more than the equivalent 4 Series Coupe.
  • Boot shrinks to 220 litres when the top is down.
  • Have to pay extra for some niceties you really need in a convertible as classy as this.
  • Hefty insurance at group 31 for this model.
