ESSEX-based Balgores Leasing is celebrating its 25th anniversary year by committing to raise £10,000 for a local hospice with a range of initiatives.

In the Balgores Leasing deals to boost hospice funds it is donating £5 for every vehicle leased since last October to help the work of Saint Francis Hospice. That was boosted earlier this month when the company delivered 24 vehicles to Hanon Systems UK Ltd based on the Springfield Lyons Business Park in Chelmsford.

Balgores supplied a variety of vehicles including a Mercedes, a Nissan and a number of Ford, Kia and Hyundai cars.

Tim Nicholls, purchasing manager at Hanon Systems UK, said: “We chose them because they offer local support and we’re delighted with the way they were able to meet our needs within a very short period of time. We’re also delighted to support Balgores’ efforts to raise £10,000 for an Essex hospice this year.”

Martin Wilson, one of two directors of the leasing business which has been based in Romford since it began in 1990, is keen to support the local hospice that cared for his father Denis who lived in Hutton, near Brentwood.

“My dad had myeloma, a cancer of plasma cells in the bone marrow, for many years. The first sign that he had this form of cancer was when he began complaining of back ache but he lived with the disease for 12 years before he was taken really ill over Christmas 2010,” said Martin.

Martin’s dad spent Christmas at home in bed and then was admitted to hospital and ten days later referred to Saint Francis Hospice after staff at Queen’s suggested he would be more comfortable there.

Martin said: “Nothing was too much trouble for the hospice staff and I can say now that when my time comes if I could die in the way that my dad died that’s what I would like to happen.”

Martin has already taken a table of guests to the hospice’s annual ball and, with sales manager Phil Slyfield will be taking aim at the hospice’s clay pigeon shooting event in August organised by hospice supporter and sports promoter Barry Hearn.

“This is just a start,” said Martin. “We will be encouraging our employees to raise money for the hospice by agreeing to match fund whatever they raise up to £300 per staff member as we work towards raising our target of £10,000 to support the great work of Saint Francis Hospice.”
