Facts, figures, likes and dislikes

  • P11D – £24,169
  • Company car tax – £60 per month for a basic rate tax payer
  • Official mpg – 76.3mpg
  • Our average mpg – 53mpg over 2772 miles
  • Our best mpg – 65.2mpg on a 120 mile trip
  • We like – long distance travelling experience, brilliant economy, low company car tax, sat nav graphics
  • We don’t like – engine gruff on acceleration, sat nav doesn’t always recognise your destination, initial muting needed on phone calls

That’s just one reason the Insignia makes such a good road warrior. But it’s not the only one.

The comfort of the heated front seats, the easy cruising on the motorway with its long sixth gear, and terrific graphics on a very good sat nav system are just a few of the plus points.

But so, too, is the compliance of its suspension that soaks up the bumps and dips in roads effortlessly.

And don’t think it’s built just for motorways. It’s pretty good fun on smaller country roads, handling with confidence with accurate steering and powerful brakes.

There are some downsides: the engine is gruff from cold and when accelerating, but smoothes out once you’re on the go; the hands-free ‘phone system isn’t correctly suppressed when it first starts ringing (gave my wife a real shock when that first happened!) and I can’t yet find a way to prevent it doing so (please send my your suggestions); and the sat nav on a couple of occasions just does ‘the computer says “no”’ when putting in a destination.

But overall this is a cracking car. Our SME judges were bang on: the Insignia really does deserve its title – SME Company Car of the Year.
