THE timing couldn’t be better for small businesses needing to operate in London with the onset of the Low Emission Zone: a rental alternative to paying the £100 daily charge – see news story Van charge starts in Greater London.

That’s because car rental firm Avis is doing more than cars now – it’s added vans to its business to business corporate service. Avis says its new van rental service – called Avis Commercial Vehicles – will provide a ‘no turn-down’ guarantee on a range of commercial vehicles along with excellent customer service.

The supply of vans is thanks to a new joint venure Avis has created with Goodwood Corporate Mobility, which will manage a network of suppliers, ensuring nationwide coverage, instant confirmation and fast delivery of vehicles.

Avis commercial director, Anthony Ainsworth, commented: “We go out of our way to listen to our customers and ensure we are providing a service that fits within their business needs and expectations. As such, the move into commercial vehicles was a natural step for us as we looked to provide a comprehensive service that is flexible, efficient and retains the same level of service that Avis customers have come to expect.”

So what sort of vans can a small business or trades professional expect from Avis Commercial Vehicles?

Avis says that its daily rental business vans are available for short and long term periods and are grouped into six categories.

The six categories offered by Avis Commercial Vehicles include:

Group B – Available within four working hours these vans include the Ford Connect and the VW Caddy
Group C – Available within four working hours these vans include the Ford Transit 260 and the Mercedes Benz Sprinter Short Wheel Base
Group D – Available within four working hours these vans include the Ford Transit 350 and the VW CR35 Medium Wheel Base
Group E – Available within four working hours these vans include the Ford Transit LWB Jumbo and the VW CR 35 LW
Group F – Available within two working days these vans include the Ford Transit Luton
Group G – Available within two working days these vans include the Ford Transit Luton with tail lift
