What is it?

Audi’s striking R8 coupe with the addition of two extra cylinders. New V10 means 525PS (an additional 105PS over the V8 version of the R8), 0-62mph in a warp-factor 3.9 seconds, and a sensational V10 wail from the engine. Also comes with world-first all-LED headlamp system. Available as manual (tested here) or with R tronic sequential shift/auto.

What’s hot?

  • That engine: its V10 sings a glorious, hard-edged song
  • Those looks: striking appearance with contrast colour slash
  • Fine handling balance not upset by additional V10 weight
  • Magnetic ride smooths out bumps, keeps occupants composed
  • Sport damper button firms things up when you’re in the mood
  • Gearchange weight through the machined aluminium gate
  • Comfortable and easy to drive when you want to take things easy
  • Lightweight aluminium spaceframe aids near 20mpg
  • Limited availability likely to keep used values high

What’s not?

  • With 351g/km and a £100,000 price tag…
  • …makes company car tax out of the question
  • If you’re going away, there’s limited luggage capacity
  • Not enough tunnels around to enjoy the engine note
  • Ummm…that’s it
