Audi A4 Avant 2.0 TDi 150 Ultra review:

Elegant Avant adds extra practicality to A4’s efficient good-to-drive package

What is it?

The Avant estate version of the all-new A4, which Audi reckons 45% of customers will go for, here in business-friendly 2.0-litre TDI 150 Ultra form.

What’s hot?

  • Audi make great looking estates. The latest A4 Avant, the sixth-generation version, might look quite similar to the last, but with the sharp metalwork and sloping roof, Audi’s latest small executive converts well into a more practical load carrier. No wonder Audi claim an almost class-leading drag coefficient of 0.26 for the new A4 Avant estate!
  • Audi are making a big noise about the impressive refinement on the latest A4 and like the saloon  we’ve driven recently, the Avant boasts an impressively calming and quiet interior.
  • Like the saloon, Audi’s neat, bright and distinctive optional Matrix LED light system is available. Tick the Matrix option and you’ll also get Audi’s equally distinctive sweeping rear indicators too.
  • Our 150 Ultra trim version is similar to the entry-level SE trim, which is well-equipped with 17-inch alloys, three-zone climate control and keyless go.
  • One of the main reasons you’ll choose the new A4 Avant is the stylish cabin. Highlights of the horizontally-styled dashboard include the new interface for the climate control, which not only looks classier, but is actually easy to operate. Then there’s the standard 7-inch MMI colour infotainment system, which sprouts from the top of the centre console. Finally, there’s the impressive, expensive and high quality feel to the A4 Avant’s interior. With expensive, textured plastics and metal finishes the order of the day.
  • With the new MLB platform and the Avant’s taller roofline, even the tallest will be comfortable with plenty of head and knee room.

  • So we know that the A4 Avant has a spacious interior, but the extra glass area of the estate means 505-litres of practically-shaped bootspace. This can be increased by folding the 40:20: 40 rear seat, matching the Mercedes C-Class 1,510 litres of load space. Another neat touch is the power tailgate (also standard) and the way the luggage cover slides upwards with it.
