98 – Breaking records

Share

29 December 2008

Welcome back to all readers in this post-Christmas pre-New Year phase.

Four and a half days away from the office has felt like a refreshing mini-break, but it’s always so difficult to get going this first day back. Well, it is for me, anyway.

Regular readers of this blog will recognise that I’m a Harlequins rugby fan and season ticket holder. Recently I had the chance to go up to Leicester to watch Tigers v Quins thanks to a bit of corporate from Europcar (see Blog entry Tigers maul Quins). A good day out, but wrong result!

On the 27th, it was the return match. Except that Quins moved the event across the road to the home of English rugby, Twickenham stadium. The idea was to create a big rugby event over the Christmas period – and smash the record for a home premiership attendance.

There were dancing girls, fireworks and a huge 50,000 crowd to ensure the record was broken. And a nail-biting finale that saw Quins snatch a draw from Leicester Tigers in the ebbing moments of full time. Phew!

We went home happy. And probably the right result from a fairly scrappy match. But congratulations to Quins’ management for having the courage to put on such an event. The record crowd proved their judgment correct.

Another business celebrating a record is Business Car Manager partner Auto Windscreens.

Its factory has been producing windscreens for 25 years now. During this 25-year period: production has grown twenty-fold; staff numbers have increased ten-fold; and windscreen sizes have doubled.

The purpose-built Chesterfield factory produces an astonishing 250,000 windscreens a year for more than 860 models of vehicles.

Auto Windscreens has further cause for celebration: its windscreens now carry the Kitemark symbol of quality. Auto Windscreens has launched a special service for small businesses. If your business car’s windscreen is chipped or damaged, visit the ‘Local Business’ section of the Auto Windscreen website. There you can receive special business rates for your windscreen repair.
