89 – Small business car choices

Share

8 December 2008

I had a chance to speak to Robert Nugent on the way up to a meeting today with the tyre people Continental. It was a good way to pass the time on the train.

Robert works for Anthony K Associates, a BVRLA-approved leasing broker. Robert contributes to this magazine. And always has an intelligent angle on the market.

I asked him what it was like for brokers in the current downturn.

Interestingly, Robert said that it’s given them a chance to speak to some larger businesses with car requirements of some 25 to 50 cars.

“They’re coming to us to see if they’ve got the best deal. They are often with a single funder. And obviously we have access to many. So this downturn is an opportunity for us to talk and quote on some of the bigger fleets.”

And what about the smaller businesses?

“For smaller business requirements, say 1-3 cars, we’re seeing downsizing from mid-range BMWs to top range Ford Mondeos. People realise the value of these cars and the rates on them are good at the moment,” commented Robert.

“Otherwise they are going for some of the specials that we’re able to access, such as a Mercedes C-Class C180 for £220 a month. And that price includes an auto gearbox. But we have deals across the Mercedes range. If you’re in the market for a deal, now is the time to grab one while the cars are sitting there. I can’t see it being the same after Christmas.”

A word from the wise. I’m getting a few quotes from Robert…
