Editor’s Blog on first impressions of his new Audi A6 SE 2.0 TDI

CALL me, perhaps, a touch conservative in my choice of new car – and colour. But my new Audi A6 has arrived. Typically it came before I went away on holiday so I was in a complete flat spin trying to meet deadlines, get ready – and so on. As you do.

Anyway, my old black Audi A6 2.0 TDIe SE has been replaced with a new black Audi A6 2.0 TDI SE. See what I mean about conservative?

There are two great things about this: it feels like the old A6, in the sense you know where everything is located (as one business owner told me, “I know where all the buttons are”); it also feels exceptionally better than the old model.

So it feels like an old, comfortable coat – but strangely new and exciting.

It was timely too. I had been without my old A6 for several weeks, and the particular day the new A6 was due to arrive I had two business meetings to attend.

If nothing else, it proved what a superb long-distance car this is: 300 miles in it the moment I’d taken the keys.

Ironically, the first meeting was up the M1 to Milton Keynes where Audi is headquartered – but to see the head of business sales at Skoda, like Audi another member of the Volkswagen Group.

So, my immediate impressions? If you liked the old A6 you will love the all-new car. If you’ve always thought the Audi A6 wasn’t up to the BMW 5 Series to drive – and that was the case – now it’s head to head with the BMW 5.

The other two stand outs: after a long day and 300 miles, I stepped out of the new Audi A6 fresh and with no sign of fatigue. And that’s in no small part to the improved ride of the latest A6 – sooooo much better than the old car.

So, first acquaintance – it’s good; very good.
