If you go over your contract mileage, you will be subject to excess mileage charges

Business Car Manager: Editor’s Blog

Robert Wastell, managing director of CompareContractHire.com, wrote to us with this comment: Regarding the Ask the Experts article on What happens if I drive more than my contracted miles?, one thing I would add to this useful article is excess mileage also depends on your fleet size and the de-hire date of your vehicle.

Many leasing companies may offer fleet aggregation. The customer can also contract amend if they are underperforming their contract and this is probably worth communicating as well as many companies are not aware of this. I have covered this is in an article What is excess mileage pooling?

Editor’s note: Pooling excess mileage can be useful. However, most small businesses don’t have a fleet size big enough to make this viable. But the point is well made: if you’ve got a larger fleet of cars, you should investigate this facility with your contract hire company or leasing provider.
