Company car drivers: in the firing line

THE news story about the £9m put aside by the Treasury to help the HMRC tackle tax evasion (see Treasury turns sights on tax evasion) has some repercussions for company car drivers, blogs Pete Leyden, director of Charterhousemedia.

I am sure as part of this process the company car driver will be actively targeted.

So, with this in mind, it is important you check your tax coding. If you are uncertain get professional help. After all, in my experience it is very easy to be charged too much tax on your company car.

Worse still, of course, is HMRC not being aware you are in a company car and then hitting you with a large demand for back payment of tax.

Editor’s note: If you are concerned about your tax coding, there is additional information on the DirectGov website in the article Company benefits in your tax code.
