Many of the interior and infotainment features have been imported from the Mark 7 Golf, so the Polo is smarter than before, in both senses

Higher quality interior

The Polo already had one of the highest quality interiors in the supermini segment but Volkswagen has really improved matters.

It borrows many things from the Mk7 Golf, including the steering wheel and infotainment system, which now has a proximity sensor so as you move your hand towards it it’ll display more options.

You can also swipe and zoom in using smartphone gestures. Small things, like changes to the dials and heater controls, have also helped modernize the interior design.

Plug-in hybrid Polo

If you’re still not happy with the efficiency on offer in the diesel or petrol-powered models then just wait until mid-2015 when Volkswagen will reveal more details on a plug-in hybrid model. Like the Golf hybrid, it’s expected to be badged GTE. There’s not much else to go on but if it’s anything like as efficient as the Golf, it’ll manage around 150mpg, with emissions as low as 30g/km.
