YOU probably weren’t blown away by the exterior changes made to the VW Polo for its 2014 ‘facelift’ but there really is more going on here than you think.
Here are five of the most exciting new features of the new Polo, which reveal exactly why it’s now a better company car choice than ever before.
New TSI Bluemotion
Volkswagen has ditched the old Bluemotion diesel model and replaced it with a petrol-powered TSI Bluemotion.
It uses a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder with 89bhp and is capable of an astonishing 68.9mpg.
Bigger news for small fleets is its 94g/km, meaning it qualifies for 100% first year write down allowance. The entry-level 1.2 engine has now been replaced by a naturally aspirated 1.0-litre borrowed from the up! city car, too, so all the petrols are far more efficient.
Better diesel engines
The 1.2 and 1.6 TDI diesels of the old VW Polo have now both been replaced by a 1.4-litre three-cylinder TDI.
Go for the DSG gearbox and you’ll find the standard 88bhp TDI now returns 89g/km and more than 80mpg. A Bluemotion TDI is available in Europe with 83g/km but we won’t get it in the UK because it would simply be too expensive.
The VW Polo is now available with adaptive dampers and radar-guided cruise control.
It’s also safer than ever thanks to a system that will automatically apply the brakes in the event of a rear collision to stop you from ricocheting in to the car in front. There’s a new MirrorLink system as part of the infotainment system which essentially allows you to display your smartphone’s screen on the touchscreen in the Polo’s centre console.
