Corporation Tax guidelines clarified

Writing Down Allowances: amounts clarified

Plus current Writing Down Allowance corrected

I’m indebted to reader Matt Hinton, who is the manager, fleet & full service leasing (FSL) at Ford Financial Britain, and Barry Lewis of HSBC Vehicle Finance. Both contacted me having noticed a mix up in my figures.

In Issue 31 of the Business Car Manager e-zine – in the story New Corporation Tax rules confirmed – I had erroneously swapped around the new writing down allowance (WDA) rates: 10% for 111g/km-160g/km cars and 20% for 160g/km and above.

I did spot this error and quickly changed it. But early readers of the latest issue may have seen the uncorrected version. So just to be clear, here are the new rates:

New Writing Down Allowances for 2009/10

  • Cars with emissions 111 to 160g/km 20%
  • Cars with emissions above 160g/km 10%

However, what I didn’t realise was the current WDA rate for 2008/09 had been changed in the Budget. It is now 20% or up to
