I was at the Science Museum on Thursday night. It’s a splendid place. It’s just stuffed full of artefacts: 300,000 according to the museum.
It was all a terrific backdrop for a very social evening in aid of charity.
The charity is called WOMAC – Women On the Move Against Cancer. It’s organised by the women in the motor industry to help raise funds for charity.
It was set up following Gunnar Nilsson’s death. Nilsson was a supremely talented Swedish F1 driver. But in 1979 his career was cut short by testicular cancer. In the weeks before he died, Gunnar showed immense courage in organising help for other cancer sufferers. His example was the inspiration for WOMAC.
The evening is an excellent opportunity to socialise, network and, of course, donate money for charity.
I caught up with several people there, many who have helped and written for Business Car Manager: John Griffiths who writes for the FT; Rupert Saunders who edits Auto Retail Bulletin; and Mark Bursa, editor of our sister magazine Business Van Manager.
I also got to talk to the Jon Zammet, who heads up the pr operation at Audi. Jon was telling me that he gets to swank it with the stars these days…including Kate Winslet at the BAFTAs.
Apparently, all the stars are chauffered to the event in Audi A8s. Which seems like a classy way to start any awards evening. And somewhat different from my journey home on public transport!
Ah well, the life of a small business is nothing if not varied!
