116 – How much of a deal? pt2

Robert Wastell at partner CompareContractHire.com adds this blog re: How much of a deal is a Golf for £199 a month?

Your story and blog on How much of a deal is a Golf for £199 per month? was an interesting one. It highlights the difference in rentals between suppliers on the site at www.CompareContractHire.com</a .

What this means is that it pays to shop around.

For example, a Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi Titanium 3dr is least expensive at Days (£201 per month), while the most expensive is Masterlease at £323. Or a difference of £122 per month. Over 38 months that is a £4636 saving. This one is probably not the norm but it shows my point. The same also applies to vans.

The other point worth noting for readers is that a wide difference in list price needn’t mean the same difference is contract hire rentals.

Let me illustrate the point: a Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec 3dr costs £14,994. A Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi Titanium 3dr costs £17,803 – a difference of over £2800.

Yet the lease price differential is just £1 a month – £200 the 1.6 Zetec; £201 for the 1.6 TDCi Titanium. That’s an awful lot of value for just £1 per month. It gives a whole new meaning to the term: ‘£1 shop’!
