Admittedly the 1.6 diesel SE generally did over 50mpg but while it too was fun to drive, it really can’t match this. And what with petrol being so much cheaper, I’d have to say it looks like being worth the extra. We’ll do some sums later on and find out how just how much the fun costs.
As to the 2 doors, well not my problem since I drive it. There are always teenage cries of ‘shotgun front’ no matter what the car, so I’m perfectly used to ignoring complaints about being in the back. I have tried it, to show willing, and really it’s not so bad. At least for local trips. In fairness, you really wouldn’t want to go too far. So as a passenger carrier probably not.
But hey, that’s not why you’d get one. You’d get one because for something this quick it looks very discrete and acceptable in the company car park, and it’s a lot of fun for not many bucks. Think of it as a secret treat.
All I have to do now is keep it away from Ralph.
